This survey instrument was handcrafted by Jonathan Fisher and was used by him to both survey land and create maps such as the one seen in the exhibit entitled - A New Look at an Old Painting - elsewhere in this exhibit.
This survey map completed by Fisher while he was a student at Harvard demonstrates the skills he had as a surveyor. He was to use these skills as a means to supplement his parson's income and to help his town and his neighbors create the town of Blue Hill, Maine.
